Vienna to Krems by Train
A short regional ride from the capital straight into the Wachau Valley — the gateway to Krems, Dürnstein and one of Austria's most scenic wine-growing landscapes.
The journey, stop by stop
From Wien Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, REX trains head northwest along the Danube toward Krems an der Donau, the main rail gateway to the Wachau Valley.
How long does it take?
The trip takes around 1h. Check the live schedule for your date.
Who runs the route?
The route is run by REX (Regional Express), operated by ÖBB, with a direct train and no changes needed from Vienna's Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof.
Continuing on to Dürnstein
Dürnstein, the postcard village famous for its blue-and-white abbey tower, has no train station of its own on the main network. From Krems, the last stretch is a short local bus (about 15 minutes) or, between April and October, a scenic Danube river boat — never a direct train.
