How to Get to Lake Bled by Train

By WoW Train · Updated June 2026 · 3 min read

An island church on an emerald lake, under a cliff-top castle, ringed by the Julian Alps. Lake Bled is one of Europe's most photographed places — and one of the easiest to reach by train, if you know which station to aim for.

The secret no one tells you: Bled has two train stations. Lesce-Bled sits on the main line (fast, frequent) but is about 4 km from the lake — a short bus or taxi. Bled Jezero is right above the lake but sits on the slower, scenic Bohinj Railway. Pick Lesce-Bled for speed, Bled Jezero for the view.

What is the route from Ljubljana?

The gateway is Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital. From Ljubljana it's a short regional hop (roughly 40–55 minutes) to Lesce-Bled, with frequent departures through the day. From Lesce-Bled, a local bus or taxi brings you down to the lakeshore in a few minutes.

Coming from further afield — Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Venice or Zagreb — you'll route through Ljubljana first, then take the regional connection.

How to buy train tickets?

You've seen it. Now go. The gateway is Ljubljana — book your train there, then it's a short regional hop to the lake. Trainline covers every operator in one secure checkout.
